Following on from the outstanding success of the Homestay Program in 2007 we will again be offering this service to competitors at the December 2008 Sail Melbourne Regatta.
The Homestay Program provides bed and breakfast accommodation in the homes of local residents for sailors competing in Sail Melbourne - The Asia Pacific Regatta as an alternative to staying in a hotel or motel. Costs are usually very reasonable and accommodation is located close to the yacht club.
For sailors:
If you are a sailor competing in Sail Melbourne and wish to stay with a local resident in their private home please fill out the form attached below and return it to Sail Melbourne.
At this time we will accept application forms from competitors wishing to be involved with the Homestay Program, you may not hear from us for a few months, but be assured that we will match a host for you closer to the start of Sail Melbourne in December 2008.
For hosts:
Do you have a spare room, bungalow or maybe a unit near Sandringham Yacht Club that would be available for one or two weeks between December 12th 2008 and December 21st, 2008? Sail Melbourne is seeking host families for international competitors taking part in this world class sailing event.
Many locals in the Bayside area and around Port Phillip bay have greatly enjoyed their involvement with the program in previous years and we encourage you to join the fun – see the quote below! If you are interested then please download the form below, fill it in and return it to Sail Melbourne. We will give you every level of support to make it run very easily, we'll come and chat with you beforehand, we'll give you the opportunity to contact the sailors before they arrive and we'll give you the paper work to secure the arrangements. If you have any questions then please contact us and explain how things work.
“With lots of empty bedrooms thanks to kids working overseas I decided to become involved in the Sail Melbourne ‘Homestay' program and what a great decision that was. I was lucky enough to host the Greek junior team, two bronzed lads and their coach descended upon my home and two weeks of great fun commenced. For me it was great to have the house hum again, to make friends whom I can catch up with when I go to Europe and to gain an appreciation of yet another culture.”
Anne Forsyth, Sandringham resident and Homestay host
